The aim of the School Council is to provide the opportunity for children to contribute to the development and organization of the school, to address the interests and concerns of students and to develop leadership skills. The school council is a chance for a representative pupil of each year to voice their ideas, suggestions and comments on how they and their fellow students believe their learning and recreational activities should be carried out.
A pupil of each year is elected to represent their year group. This means that they not only communicate between fellow students but also pass on their ideas and views to staff members. This information is fed back to the rest of the teaching staff and discussed in further detail and both staff and management make a decision.
The School Council promotes a strong relationship between fellow pupils and members of staff. It is an integral part of developing the school and bridging the gap between what students and staff would like to see being achieved and taking place within the school. It also gives students the opportunity to develop their speaking and listening skills as they communicate, debate and negotiate their suggestions.
IBSB is an increasingly expanding school and the needs are varying. Due to this the School Council helps to pave the way forward in building mutual understanding and respect, not only academically but also socially. The School Council meets at least once every half term to discuss areas of concern or help organize upcoming events both within the school and within the local community.
