Teacher release and lesson and duty cover

All teaching staff in IBSB are obliged to be in school Monday to Friday according to the school calendar and academic timetable from 8.15 am to 4.15 pm except Friday when we finish at 3.15 pm. The teacher on duty in the Primary School must stay until the last child is picked up / accounted for. The after school teaching and the Saturday morning revision lessons are optional and are made in agreement between teachers, parents and students. Primary school teachers are expected to offer at least two after school clubs per week and secondary school teachers are expected to offer one after school club per week. The school is open [for teachers only] during holidays so any teacher who wants to come into the school can do so, but has to go through the office or the senior teacher who is covering the office during that time. [There is always a teacher from the management team available in the holidays].

Lateness

All members of staff are expected to sign in and out of school each school day. Members of staff who are regularly late [more than 5 times each half term] will be warned that future lateness will result in an interview with either the Head of School or Head of Primary School designed to resolve the problem. Continued lateness after this interview during the remainder of that term will result in an interview with the Executive Director and possibly a warning in line with the school internal regulations.

Request for release [At the discretion of the Head of the School]

Members of staff are allowed days away from school at the discretion of the Head of School or Head of Primary School, in the case or personal problems / emergencies. Cover for lessons and duties must be arranged.

Any request for release during school time has to be made well in advance and it has to be for a very good reason that can not be dealt with any other time.

The request for the release:

  • Has to go through the relevant Head of School
  • The teacher who is asking for release must complete the release form and give it to the Head of School who then notifies the timetabling officer. The Head of the School will inform the Executive Director about the absences.
  • In the Primary School the Head of the PS must be told and then any teachers the absence will affect

The cover:

  • The teacher who is going to be away has to leave appropriate cover work for the lessons he/she is going to miss
  • The cover work has to be very clear and easy to explain to the students and it has to cover the whole lesson
  • In the PS plans should be sent to the Head teacher whenever possible and explained to the cover teacher. All resources must be prepared.
  • Teachers should check the cover sheet every morning. This is displayed in the school and the staff room.
  • Cover for duties must be arranged by the absent teacher beforehand.

In case of an emergency or unexpected illness, the teacher has to contact the Head of School or Head of Primary School by phone and inform him about the situation. The Head of School or Head of Primary School will then inform the Office and the timetabling officer who will arrange cover as soon as possible.

Return to work Interviews

If a member of staff has 3 consecutive days absent they must have a medical / doctors note to explain their absence, which they should present to the office upon their return to school. In addition, they will have a ‘back to work’ meeting with either the Head of School or the Head of the Primary School, to assist their return to work and discuss any future needs / problems that have to be resolved.

Staff absences, with reasons, are recorded by the Head of School and Head of Primary School on a weekly basis. Any member of staff who has over 5 days absence during any one term will be called to interview by either the Head of School or Head of Primary School to discuss the situation and attempt to resolve any problems that may be causing the absences.
