Planning policy

Planning is an essential part of teaching. All good teachers must plan their lessons thoroughly if they are to benefit all their students.

IBSB has a policy on planning.

  • Each teacher is required to develop a half term plan which should be based on the yearly curriculum overview.
  • The half term plan must be ready at the beginning of every half term. In this you must outline in more detail the key issues you will be covering in each lesson, the resources you will use, the activities the students will do, the homework you will set, how you will assess the students and afterwards write a weekly evaluation.
  • The half term plan will contain at the end, a Self – Evaluation section which must be filed in at the end of every half term.
  • The Schemes of Work provided by Cambridge and the Schemes of Work developed in some departments should be used as a support for our planning.
  • The Schemes of Work, Curriculum Overviews and the half term plans must all be kept up to date in electronic format on the server in the planning folder. One hard copy must be kept by every teacher for evidence and writing the weekly evaluation.
  • The Heads of Departments are responsible with the smooth running of the planning, teaching and evaluation process in the department, and they will report any problems to the Head of the Secondary/Primary School when necessary. The Head of the School will be informed whenever necessary by Head of Secondary/Primary School. Support will be given to all new teachers, or any other colleagues who will face possible challenges regarding planning during the year.
  • The Head of the Secondary School [and Head of Primary School] will regularly check the planning folders on the server. Also unannounced lessons observation [climbing for learning survey] will occur during the year [the Head of the School will be supported for this by the members of the Senior Management Team] in order to assure a high standard of planning, teaching and evaluation across the whole school.
  • When observed by line managers the planning must be available in a hard format for review.

This is the current planning policy and we will follow it until further notice. The Senior Management Team is currently discussing the updates and improvement of the planning policy and procedure. All the members of staff will be informed about the any changes as soon as this will be approved by the Head of the School.
