IBSB Mentoring Program

Programme Purpose

The IBSB Mentoring Program is a program designed to assist in the social, personal, and academic acclimation to IBSB by pairing incoming new-entry students or students with needs in different areas (academic, social) with outstanding senior students and teachers who act as mentors throughout the academic year. This program is a new programmebeing trialed in the Secondary School and we hope it will be successful for both the mentees and mentors and as a result also be implemented into the Primary School next year.

Why Mentoring?

Mentoring can be defined as a helpful relationship between a younger and older individual. The purpose of having a mentoring relationship in school is to assist students with the challenges associated with school and life experience. The Mentoring Programme provides academic and personal support for participating students. Relationships are built by matching mentors and mentees through interviews, profiles, and mentor matching sessions.

In addition to providing support, mentors are also bridge-builders between their mentees and the student service department in school. This means that students have a ready resource for questions ranging from specific ones in Mathematics, Biology and so on to general ones about life, relationships, and career, etc.

One of the primary goals of the IBSB Mentoring Programme is to foster academic excellence and personal development.

Mentors Can Provide:

  • Personalized guidance and friendship
  • Experience and knowledge about how to be a successful student
  • Information about academic resources, co-curricular activities, and the social life at IBSB
  • Introductions to Bucharest and the local community resources

Many activities are offered during the school year to enhance the mentor/mentee relationship.

In addition, mentees and mentors assist in the planning of activities in cooperation with the school’s management and the Educational Psychologist.

Why Become a Mentor?

Mentoring can be defined as a trusting and helpful relationship between an older and younger individual. The purpose of becoming a mentor in IBSB is to create a trusting and helpful relationship, which will assist students with the challenges associated with their school and personal life. Mentors take on the responsibility of assisting students’ growth and development by providing academic and personal support. Mentors are also expected to be a role model and assist with setting goals for their mentee, both academically and personally.
