Running Club

Want to get fit? Come to IBSB’s Running Club, taking place every Thursday at the Complex Sportiv, Parcul National. Whether you want to train to take part in the Bucharest half marathon or just want to get fit, come along. We leave from school at 2.50pm sharp, returning at 4.00pm. There’s only room for 7 students so sign up now!

 

 

The Art/Photoshop Club

The Art/Photoshop club will primarily be a skills based club. Students will learn how to use Photoshop in the ICT room. Later in the term they will have the option to work in the Art Room, hand drawing designs before scanning their designs to work on the computer. Students may prefer to take photographs and manipulate them in Photoshop, create designs directly on the computer or a combination of all of these options. The choice will be the students and will depend at what level of skills they already have in Art and Photoshop. The club is ideal for any student taking IGCSE/ AS Level / A Level Art and Design or for younger students who wish to pursue Art and Design in the future.

 

 

Thursday Football

Football anyone? All secondary students interested in chasing a white ball around a green pitch for an hour should meet on the court at 3.00pm Thursday with Mr Hartel. Fast paced games with 5 to 7 players a side. All skill levels encouraged. Join now!

 

 

French Club

How would you like to taste a little French culture? Everybody is welcome to join the French club! Our golden mission is to promote the French language and culture through a wide variety of creative activities, songs, theatre representations, cinema, and local visits. This club is meant to be a place for your linguistic and (inter)cultural awareness, and also an opportunity to discover the wonders of learning a foreign language regardless of your language learning background. Our weekly meetings take place every Thursday during club hour (15:10-16:00) in the French room.

 

 

German Club

The German Linguist Kangaroo club is addressed to all students in the Secondary School, irrespective of age. It relies on previous German language knowledge and focuses on the students’ learning experiences from all subject areas. The club is a good opportunity for German lovers to enhance their vocabulary in this area. It also offers the opportunity of confidently participating in the Linguist Kangaroo contest organized by the Ministry of Education. The club takes place every Thursday, period 7 and can accommodate a maximum of 15 students. See you then!

 

 

Tennis Club

Crave the English summer? Tennis Club. Fancy a multimillion dollar sponsorship deal? Tennis Club. Like strawberries and cream? Tennis Club. Is your name Roger, Venus, Novac or Maria and did you not learn to play tennis in England, largely in the last half century? Tennis Club. Fancy playing tennis a bit? Tennis Club. Life Skills Club

 

All years welcome at the Life Skills Club. What is it? It's a place where students from all different years meet and learn from each other different skills to help them develop. These include team games to build up confidence, discussing the latest world issues and how they impact our school community. You will have the opportunity to learn a diverse range of skills including how to survive in an urban environment. So if you want to build stronger relationships with other students and learn some skills as well, come along.

 

 

The Living Planet

The club aims to stimulate interest in, and care for the environment. The students are encouraged to investigate topics related to the living world, the relationship of the organisms with one another and with their environment and the human influence on the ecosystem. The club members will develop co-operations skills, carry on scientific research and lead presentations of the work done.

 

 

Chess Club

Chess club has been run by Cristian Munteanu since 2007 and it is a very popular club. If you want to learn how to play chess you should join this club. If you know how to play chess then you can improve your game and at the same time develop and increase your logical and mathematical skills. Youcan challenge your colleagues and play in the school chess competition or participate in tournaments where you can test your skills against players from other international schools.

 

 

Spanish and Latin American Cinema Club

You should join the Spanish and Latin American Cinema Club if you want to discover this particular cultural environment and if you are fond of seeing films. You will have the opportunity to meet the nowadays miscellaneous problems of human life in different parts of the world and at the same time see very good actors and actresses creating remarkable roles. We will also have the opportunity to have a debate on certain topics of the film, discuss other kind of arts, such as literature, or simply compare the Spanish cinema of different times.

 

 

TIV

TIV (The International Voice) is the school magazine by the students for the students. The issue comes out three times a year and is full of interesting articles relating to student life on and off campus. If you think there is a journalist inside you waiting to get out, why not join the TIV team. This is also a great addition to your resume when applying for University and will help to improve you writing and exam results.

 

 

Math Fighter

The Maths Fighter Club is open to all students in the Secondary School. The club is a good opportunity for students to develop their mathematical thinking skills thorough games and puzzles. It is also a good opportunity to practice for interschool maths competitions. Students will need good logical problem solving skills and team spirit in order to outwit their opponents.

 

 

Discover Europe

We invite you to travel in Europe, every week to a different country! Even though we are at school, we will virtually travel to Europe, discovering new places, traditions, cultures and people! No matter the age, class or key stage, everyone is invited to join our tour. Would you like to find out more? We are waiting for you next…….!

 

 

Hockey Club

Hockey is a fantastic game which involves running around with a stick and trying to hit a small ball into the other teams net. Hockey can be played in all weather so you’re guaranteed to be outside all year. It is a game played equally by men and women (hockey is a sport that has a mixed international team!) so everyone can sign up!  Open to all ages.

 

 

IBSB Public Debating Club

Are you good at arguing? Can you think on your feet? Of all the school activities nothing prepares you for life better than debating. Debating builds confidence and normally leads to higher exam results in subjects that have argumentative exam style questions. This club will be focused on learning about the different types of debating style and will prepare students for debating competitions with other schools, including the Sir Winston Churchill Future Leaders Bucharest International School Public Debating Competition, and international CEESA debates. This is a clubs for academically minded serious students. It is worth bearing in mind that students who succeed in national and international debating competitions find it easier to get into the top international universities.

 

 

Virtual Lab Simulation

The Virtual Laboratory allows students to select from hundreds of standard reagents and manipulate them in a manner that resembles that of a real lab. It allows students to design and perform diverse experiments in acid-base chemistry, thermochemistry, solubility, and redox chemistry. This club is for all those aspiring doctors, chemists, and scientists. This is your chance to experiment virtually with chemicals in a way you never could in real life.

 

 

Year Book

At the end of every year IBSB produce a Year Boo which students take away with them and usually keep as a memory for their time here at IBSB. Each year we ask for a few people from each class to join the Year Book team to decide what will go into the year book and to organise taking the photos and writing the articles; so if you are good with a camera or can write well, we’d love to have you join the Year Book team.

 

 

Swimming Club

The IBSB Swimming Club runs twice a week: on Wednesday for Beginners and on Thursday for Advanced swimmers. This club is a must for any students hoping to be on the school swim team to take part in the inter school swimming competitions scheduled to take place in the year ahead. We leave from school at 2.50pm sharp. Please be aware that parents are required to pick up their children from school after this club. There’s only room for 14 students so sign up now!
