Annually, we’ve been participating in the debate competition that reunites the best of debaters from different International schools. Our teacher, Ms. King, encouraged and helped our debating team: Gaetan, Marie, Andra, Zoe and Maria I., to be the best they could be. The team, on the 22 of March, began its morning sessions with two heated debates about ‘Consuming Less Energy, Not More’ and ‘Wikileaks: Do They Pose a Great Threat to Global Security?’
The event itself was impressive, although slightly intimidating. The school offered a tour of its humongous buildings, and provided snacks and food that I was told was delicious.
Although our team did its best, the winners were BSB. To be fair to our school and the rest of the competing teams, BSB had chosen last-moment changes – or at least, did not exactly deem it necessary to inform us. That didn’t diminish the drive to win for our students, and even with BSB’s victory, our students were glad to participate in an event such as this.
Our team also had its very own cheerleaders, Sebastian and Daniel, who accompanied the trip to BSB alongside Ms. King and Mr. Jamieson, who were also judges for other debates.
The event ended with the prize ceremony that included the British ambassador making an appearance and actively being involved as a judge alongside a representative from UNICEF.
We hope to win next year, but we’re still grateful for the effort and time that our current students dedicated to representing our school. We appreciate Ms. King’s support, and thank her for all her hard work.
