ESU Public Speaking Competition 8-11

8-11 Years

The ESU’s (English Speaking Union) Public Speaking Competition for 8 – 11 year olds took place on Sunday the 5th of February at Cosbuc. The theme for the competition was The Wisdom of Youth and IBSB was represented by a group of girls from Years 5 and 6. Mr Mullan and Mr Ennion, who attended the event, along with Head teacher Mr Peet, were all very proud of the girls’ performances as all three took prizes in a field of 120 students. It was also very impressive to hear the girls respond confidently and articulately to questions from the judges and audience.

Well done to Ioana, who was ill when our internal competition took place, was giving her speech in front of an audience for the first time. The judges gave her an Honourable Mention for her cool, calm delivery. Well done also to Kyriaki who received a second place prize. And well done to Luiza, who achieved a first place certificate, one of only two awarded on the day, for a perfect score of 100.

16-20 Years

The 16-20 year old competition was hosted this year by Cosbuc, with 3 rounds over two weekends used to select the final 2 students to represent Bucharest. Well done also to Alba, Year 12, who made it through to the final round of 10 students, placing 4th in Bucharest. This was an excellent result as both students selected to represent Bucharest were two years older than Alba, and this was Alba’s first ESU competition. We wish you well next year Alba.

The talent displayed by all students in our first entry into this English public speaking competition indicates that we can look forward to more success in the years to come!
