We are proud to have a strong link with this dynamic primary/middle school. 'Ferdinand' already has strong links with UK state and private schools and has been involved in a significant number of European Union funded projects. They have been working with UK teacher trainers since 2004 and share IBSB's passion for continuous improvement.
Mrs Violeta Dascalu took over the headship of School 64 from Mrs Simona-Cucu Dumitrescu and we are quite happy to have agreed with her on various dates on our 2008/09 links calendar.
Two couples of junior dancers took part in our UN Day show on October 24th displaying impressive skills,. This year the combined house games will resume in January and we will organize another joint stuff training session which we hope will be as successful as the previous ones.
On February 23rd teachers from IBSB ran a five hour training event at School 64 'Ferdinand'. For our staff it was culmination of over five months of experimenting with new teaching strategies in their mentor groups. Many felt just a little nervous as they waited in School 64's assembly hall for their adult 'students' to arrive!
Teachers from the upper school delivered fifteen minute presentations in the morning, while the junior team ran a number of small group sessions in the afternoon. The afternoon session also included a fascinating presentation from School 64 teachers showing how they had developed some very creative links with schools in Essex, UK. Learning at the event was very much two-way.
Overall, the day was hailed as a success by teachers and directors from both schools. Peer observations/links are now being independently arranged by teachers from a diverse range of subjects including physics, maths and the junior school. As far was we know, this is the first time a state and an international school have trained their staff together in Romania. IBSB is very proud to be working with what is probably one of the most innovative state schools in the country.
