Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the International British School of Bucharest, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have contributed to its success over the years. Ten years ago, the necessity of international education was an issue but we were lucky to have supportive and trustworthy parents that believed in our ambitions and goals.
I believe that school years are the golden years of our life. They teach us a lot about life; they earn us friends for a lifetime and train us to live. Every year in school is special, each for a unique reason! Therefore it is my hope that IBSB contributes not only to the education of our students but also that it helps them developing from early years to teenagers and young responsible adults.
Taking a quick glance over the past 10 years I have been proud to see IBSB develop and grow at all levels. The school opened its gates in September 2000 with only 12 students and 8 members of teaching staff. Starting as a small family, we put a lot of heart, hard work and effort into what we wanted to build, and those who joined us understood and contributed in the same manner.
The school’s growth has not solely been confined to the number of children enrolled, this year the school reached it’s highest capacity of 270 students, but also in the development of international recognition and accreditation. Our goal was to obtain full membership from COBIS (Council of British International Schools) as proof of our international standards of education and we successfully obtained this distinction in 2004 as a result of several inspections. During the years the school also became also a regular member of ECIS (European Council of International Schools) and CIS (Council of International Schools), and also an accredited Cambridge Examination Centre. My personal challenge was to obtain our school’s recognition by the Romanian authorities and after several years of persuasion our school was the first to be recognised by the Romanian Ministry of Education. Last year we had another inspection from COBIS for renewal of our accreditation and we were very proud to receive the highest distinction of COBIS Accredited School. I would like to assure all of you of our sincere ambition and desire to keep our school a place where children are content and safe and receiving a proper education.
The end of the school year provides the opportunity to review the changes that have taken place and assess our progress on new initiatives. I’d like to thank our teachers and staff for all of their hard work and for “being there” for our children. I’d also like to thank parents for their support, inside and outside the classroom. Educating our children is a community effort and you all truly exemplify the team spirit that helps our students achieve their very best.
However, as someone once said, “For every joyful reunion, there must have been a farewell” I would like to say goodbye and all best wishes to some of our students and their families who will be leaving IBSB. Also to our graduating seniors I wish you good luck with your future plans and hope that we will have an opportunity to see you again .
I am sure that IBSB will go on with as much enthusiasm and idealism as it has in the last decade and hope that it will contribute to the education of many more generations of students.
